Valamchuzhy is a small village situated 4 km from the city of pathanamthitta and the name famous for the name of the temple dedicated to sree bhuvaneswari. it derives the name from he presence of holy river achan kovil, is a main river flowing through pathnamthitta. the river circumvents the temple on three sides. it situated in the dense forest however the valamchuzhy bhuvaneswari temple showing the high value of nature. mangrove is a notable one here which is commonly known as sarppakavu and well protected one, which holding some valuable medicines and some species. it is considered that valamchuzhy bhuvaneswari temple is one of the ancient one in south india.

pathanamthitta is very popular for padayani, especially kadammanitta padayani however this temple is also famous for hosting padayani which is a temple art in this area. this is the only temple surrounded by a river. the sword and chilmabu are the holy things of goddess and it is believed that, it was brought from kodungallur sree bhagavathy temple. the specialty of this kshethra is the celebration of temple festivals which lasts for four months from Malayalam months makaram, kumbham, meenam and medam. bharani day of each of this months are recommended as the main day of festival at Valamchuzhy bhuvaneswari temple.

Makara bharani festival starts after the flag hoisting in punartham day and lasts for ten days. kumbha bharani festival focusing the pongala on bharani day of kumbham. meena bharani festival aims to conduct padayani, which is the popular folk dance form in pathanamthitta. medam bharani festival is the celebration after the yields take from the paddy fields and serving the meals to all kind of peoples. there are no bus services available to reach at valamchuzhy, the only way is the auto rickshaw from pathanamthitta. this is the nearest bus stand from temple. nearest rail heads are thiruvalla and chengannur and trivandrum international airport is the closest airport to the spot
