according to the hindu mythology, ramayanaa is close relate with vaitheeswaran kovil, on the way to abduct sita by ravana, jadayu became killed by the attack of ravana. but jatayu was the first messenger to rama about the missing of sita. lord rama and lakshmana was done the final rituals for jatayu at this place. angarakan is the deity of the temple which worship in two different forms. one is installed permanently in the temple and other one taken out from the sanctum for the procession. panguni uthram is the main festival day at vaitheeswaran kovil , this is the holy marriage event of god shiva and parvathy. karthigai is the other festival which is falls in tamil month karthigai. skanda shashti and adi pooram are the other main festivals celebrates grand way here. mayiladathurai is the nearest city and bus stand to the temple with less distance from the temple. chidambaram is other main city having the frequent bus services to other cities. the nearest airport is located at kumbhakonam is about 50 km away from vaitheeswaran kovil.
