Thiruvallam parasurama temple is the only temple kerala to worship parasurama, 6th avatar of mahavishnu is parasurama. it is built in 12th century during chera dynasty by the king athiyaman perumal. Thiruvallam parasurama temple located along the banks of river karamana in thiruvananthapurm district. it is the one of the ancient hindu temple, it is believed that the temple is 2000 years old. according to hindu mythology kerala is created by lord parasurama, in hindu epics the place of south west area surrounded by sea, parasurama throws his weapon, an axe to sea and kerala proclaims from sea.
Thiruvallam parasurama temple is open from 5.00 am to 8.00 pm for daily rituals, but the exception in two cases they are lunar eclipse and solar eclipse, during these two days temple will be close.The temple is administrated by travancore devaswom board. Thiruvallam parasurama temple is protected as a monument by kerala archaeological department. The temple is famous for ancestral rituals in malayalam month karkkidakam, devotees reach here and dedicate tharppana to souls and dip in holy water.
it is believed that adi sankaracharya reach here to perform rites for his mother. the principal deity is present here with an axe posture.the temple is also known as sri parasu rama swami temple. the temple is located at a special point that is the merging of three rivers, they are killi, karamana and parvathy puthanar. parvathy puthanar connects veli lake with kadinamkulam lake. the main temples are sree padmanabhaswamy, attukal are close from here.
Parasurama jayanthi is the mass festival celebrated here. amavasi and adi days are the special das here and some rituals performed.The temple is located 5 km away from trivandrum in kovalam road, nearest railway station is thruvananthapuram and airport is also trivandrum.
