Thirunelli is an ancient hindu temple in kerala located at brahmagiri hills inn wayanad district.the history about installment of this temple is unknown,the temple is surrounded by the forests.32 km is the distance from manathavadi to thirunelli,papanasini stream belong with it,very popular all over the world,it says that only one dip to this stream washes away all sins done by a man in his life.many devotees coming here to feel this experience,thirunelli completed with its surroundings papanasini,pakshipathlam,kalindi and thrisileri,it refers as four faces of god brahma.kalindi river is a part of river kaveri.panchatheertham is holy temple pond present here.The name of the place too is derived from this legend – Thirunelli means the holy gooseberry in Malayalam.  temple is famous to perform the ancestral rites called Bali,Temple, the greater number of bali tharpana is being performed everyday.

Mythology says that the first idol installed by god brahma and thus he was the real worshiper of the temple.pooja timings are 6.00 am abhishekam,6.30 am ganapathy homam,7.00 am pithru pooja in temple,8.30 am usha pooja,12.00 noon pooja seeveli and then temple closes.evening timings start with temple opening at 5.30 pm,6.30 pm deeeparadhana,7.30 pm last pooja and then temple closes.Puthari, Chuttuvilakku, Navarathri, Shivarathri and Sreekrishnajayanthi are the festivals conducted in this temple.
