Sri chamundeswari temple is one of the ancient temple in south india dedicate to goddess chamundi at mysore of karnataka, this is the remaining evidences of hoysala emperors in south india who ruled with a rich tradition in 12th century, sri chamundeswari temple was built around 12th century and this is one of the noted contribution of hoysala extremely following a dravidan style of architecture. this is considered as one of the eighteen sakthi peethams of goddess. chamunderswari is form of durga, the main sanctum focused on the hill top, this hill top is called chamundi hills. the main shrine goddess durga is one of the maha skathi peethams in india, here the goddess worshiped in the form of krouncha peetham, because the place was early called krounchapuri.

according to hindu mythology, sakthi peethams are closely associated with sati devi, the form of goddess sakthi, during the daksha yaga sati became harassed by king daksha, she commit suicide in the fire of of yaga, the body parts of sati devi falling to the different places, these places are the divine seats of sakthi. sir chamundeswari temple condidered as the hair of sakthi fallen here, and hence it is called chamundeswari devi. the main shrine is made with pure gold ad it is very big in size.

there are 1008 steps to reach at the main sanctum at the hill top. ratholsavam is the main festival here, it lasts for 10 days. this is also the annual festival. theppotsava or the floating festival is another festival hosts here. other festivals of the temple aresri chamundeswari birth ulsava, mudi utsava, vasantholsava, prasadotsava etc. chaundeswari kovil is situated very close to mysore, about 5 km. it has all facilities of transportation at mysore.
