Nilakkal mahedeva temple is one of the ancient hindu temple located at the banks of river pampa which is attracting thousands of devotees who focusing to sabarimala, so that it most commonly known as the idathavalam to sabarimala. lord shiva is the principal deity. nilakkal is lying in the border region of pathanamthitta it almost locate at the eastern side of pathanamthitta. the visit at nilakkal is an essential part of on the way to sabrimala. the huge image of lord shiva at the entrance is the prime attraction here. it locate in the middle of greenery beauty.

According to hindu mythology nilakkal is close associate with sabarimala, by the hindu legends it says that the incarnation of lord ayyappa was to kill the cruel demon mahishi, lord ayyyapa got the blessings from his father from this place. lord ayyappa also known as harihara puthran because shiva is the father of ayyappa. the installation of lord shiva here in two different imaginations because it symbolically represent the dual mood of the deity, one is the furious and another shows the calm one. there are three daily poojas holding in the temple as same in other shiva temples and there is separate place for nandikesha.

KSRTC buses are easily available from pamba to nilakkal. nearest railway stations to nilakkal are chengannur and thiruvalla with distances 67 and 73 km respectively. the closest airport to the temple is cochin international at a distance of 135 km.
