Kumarakottam murugan kovil is located at raja street at kanchipuram. there are so many temples exist in kanchipuram. lord muruga installed in the temple is considered as the child form. lord shiva and parvathy are the parents of lord muruga and, the near by temples ekambareswarar and kamakshi amman dedicate to shiva and parvathy respectively, kumarakottam murugan kovil sandwiched between these two temples, it represent the child form of lord muruga. this posture of lord muruga called soma skanda. kumarakottam murugan kovil is one one of the very ancient temples in tamil nadu which is ruined and which rebuilt during the beginning of 20th century.

Kumarakottam murugan kovil and this place be considered as moksha puri, according to hindu mythology, lord muruga approached to brahama to know about the meaning of pranav manthara ohm. but brahma is unaware about its meaning, muruga determined to punishing him, he imprisoned lord brahama and preventing from his duty of creation, later lord muruga himself installed in kumarakottam as lord of creator. later lord shiva released him and re established as the lord of creation. however and kumarakottam is close relate with pranav manhhra ohm. there are many sub deities also installed in the compound.

Kanda shashty is the popular festival hosting annually at kumarakottam murugan kovil which is usually falls in november, celebrated in a grand way. brahmotsavam is other main festival, procession of deities is the star attraction of brahmotsavam. it will easy to locate at the destination, because kanchipuram bus terminal situated very close to the temple with walk able distance, there are regular buses connect to other main cities. there s not a rail head close to the temple, the nearest possible rail head at Chennai, the nearest airport is also at Chennai.

morning- 7.00 am to 12 noon
evening- 3.30 pm to 8.00 pm
