kalpathy ratholsavam is a most famous temple festival celebrated in kalapathy sree viswanatha swami temple dedicate to lord shiva. it located at the small village names kalpathy of palakkad district, it has a great place to promote the cultural art performances in kerala. it belongs to the brahmin agrahara, it located at the banks of bhartathapuzha river. it also known as the kasshi of the south so that it known as kashi viswanatha temple. kalpathy ratholsvam is the star attraction of the temple, this is the most celebrated temple festival in palakkad.

kalpathy ratholsavam is called chariot festival, this is the annual festival at the temple which lasts for 10 days. it usually falls in the end of november. as usual the temple administration decided to celebrate the chariot festival in a grand manner. as the festival lasts for ten days, the final three days are the core part of the event. on the first day of the chariot festival, there will be a single chariot belongs to the event, it pulled by the devotees. the chariots are decorated very well, on the second day two chariots and at the final day three chariots take part in the festival.

kalpathy ratholsavam is the colorful festival in malabar region, there are many pilgrimages will take part in the festival. Kalpathy is the old brahmin settlement in kerala about 700 years old. there will be more than 98 agraharamas belong to the temple. the prime deity of the temple is lord shiva as well as goddess lakshmi. except the vedic rituals there many cultural programs will be conducted along with the chariot festival. the chariots are decorated by the devotees by using the flowers and fruits.
