Jambukeswar temple is one of the famous shiva temples in tamilnadu, it is also the main one of the five places, the principal deity is lord shiva as in jambukeswar, the specialty of the temple is the presence of a water stream flowing under the sanctum and hence plenty of water always flows here, water is one of the element of panchabhootha early mentioned this is one of the panchabhootha, one of the element is water which is always here.

the temple is built during chola dynasty by the king kocengannan. the main deities are shiva and parvathy they installed opposite to each other the arrangement of the idols in this manner is called upadesa sthalams, parvathy installed like a student or vidyaarthy and shiva as in teacher. except thyagaraja temple at thrivottiyur this is the only temple with the image of brahma.

The temple is rebuilt by the hoysala king in 12th century, there are five enclosures inside the temple, the huge outer wall is wondering to us, there is a big hall inside the fourth precinct with 796 pillars, is about 2436 feet height. we can see a square shaped sanctum inside the temple, the temple, jambuka vriksham is holy tree of lord shiva, it growing at the south eastern side. nandi kesha focused at the south western side of the sanctum, it made with bronze and installed inside a four pillar building. also mukha mandapa is there. the name jambukeswar derived from the name of the holy tree jambukeswar.

The morning hours is from 5.30 am to 1.00 pm and evening for 3.00 pm to 8.30 pm daily. the nearest airport is thiruchirappalli located at 20 km distance, temple 2 km away from trichy railway station and easily get the buses to trichy from all parts of tamilnadu.
