Gangadeeswarar templeis popular hindu temple at Chennai in Tamil nadu state. the prime deity of the temple is lord shiva. gangadeeswarar temple is famous for worship lord shiva s gangadeeswarar lord shiva got its name after by heading the holy ganga on his head. it is believed that lord ganga is originate from heaven, according to hindu mythology there was king named bhageeratha in bharath he gave penance for lord to have the river from heaven and hence river ganga flows to earth but the force of the water flow was not capable for earth, so that lord shiva carries ganga on his river and the river flows to earth from the head of lord shiva, so that lord shiva gangadeeswarar or gangadharan. the river ganga also known as bhageerathy.

it is believed that the temple site was the location of bhageeratha used to pray lord shiva. siddhi vinayak, muruga, surya, devi, vishnu are the sub deities of the temple. there are four pooja schedules in the temple named kala shanthi, usha kala pooja, Sayaratchai pooja and finally palliyarai pooja daily. the temple is open at 7.00 am daily for morning rituals and close 11.00 am, then open at evening 5’o clock for the evening rituals and close gangadeeswarar temple at 8.30 pm after the palliyarai pooja.
