Gajendra varada kovil is a popular mahavishnu located at kabisthalam village in tamilnadu at the banks of papanasam, this is one among the 108 divya desams. temple also give more prominence to the incarnation of lord vishnu as krishna so that it ranked as one of the pancha kannan temples. it built during the period of cholas and later maintained by vijayanagara emperors. this is one of the ancient temples in india which was built on 7th century. the feature of this temple which giving more prominence to krishna than prime deity vishnu. lord vishnu in gajendra varada temple worshiped as gajendra varadha and his consort lakshmi as ramamanivalli installed right to the main sanctum.

Granite wall surroundings are the star attraction at gajendra varada temple which enclose its deities and bodies of water. the temple has a five tier raja gopuram. prime deity lord vishnu installed in recline posture which is commonly known as bhujanga sayanam. the roof of the temple is termed as gangakrutha vimanam. yoga narasimhar, sudarsana,garuda and azhwar are the sub deities housing in the gajendra varada kovil. there are main six daily rituals performed here. it also famous for hosting the festivals.

Gajendra varada kovil sandwiched between two rivers named cauvery and kollidam. there are some holy water sources holds in the temple compound they are gajendra pushkarni and kapila theertham. gajendra moksha leela is the main event conducting annually, which celebrated in the tamil month adi that falls in July or august months in gregorian calendar. chariot festival in vaigasi visakam and brahmotsavam are the other main festivals. thanajavure is the nearest city having the high facilities of bus and rail services at a distance of 25 km from the spot. trichy is the nearest airport which is about 50 km away.
