Ettumanoor temple is an ancient mahadeva temple located in a small city ettumanoor in kottayam district lord shiva is the presiding deity of ettumanoor temple,known as ettumanoorappan for the devotees,it is believed that the temple reconstructed during ad 1542. dravidan mural paintings appeared at the wall and outside of the temple,nataraja dance pictured here,the temple built by traditional kerala style architecture,the temple roof covered with copper metals.the sub deities ganapathy,bhagavathy,sastha and yakshi is installed in this temple.The origin of ettumanoorappan is from Kattampakk, a small village in Kottayam district.

Seven and half elephants is the unique specialty of this temple in regional language it called ezharaponnana made with gold.these elephants are donated by travancore family for the temple,the temple is one of the most rich temples in kerala.there are two statues of bulls with bells for dedication to nandikeshan.the main festival is thiru arattu ulsavam and it is held on malayalam month kumbham that is usually in february or march lasts ten days.during this time seven and half elephants placed for public view,there are lot of peoples coming here to see this.the thiruvathira festival and shivarathri is also celebrated here.

The mythology says that the pandavas and sage vyasa worshiped the lord at this temple,this is an important stop to pilgrims they go to sabarimala,pooja timings start from 4 am to 12 pm,4:00 AM to 4:30 AM – Nirmalyam,8:00 AM to 8:30 AM – Pantheeradi Pooja,11:00 AM to 11:30 AM – Ucha Puja then temple closes. evening pooja start from 5 pm,6:30 PM to 7:00 PM – deeparadhana and ends at 8.30 pm.then temple closes.the temple is visible from MC road on the way to ernakulam,the temple have enough space for parking.transportation facilities are train,bus etc are available.There are regular trains from other major cities of the country to Ettumanoor and also bus services.
