It will very peaceful atmosphere enjoys at the banks of river periyar, one of the ancient shiva temples in kerala located near to this holy river. cheranalloor mahadeva temple is built around 300 years back. it is believed that the prime deity lord shiva blessing his devotees together with sati devi. lord shiva at cheranalloor is also known as rina mochaka that bearing the idea of solving all debts of his devotees. this temple has one of the prominent place because it is considered as one of the main 108 shivalayas in kerala. it is famous for worshiping lord shiva with fragrant flowers.

As the name of the prime deity rina mochaka suggests there will be some special poojas to solve the all debts, rinamochaka poojas performed at this temple regularly. rudrabhishekam and ksheera dhara are the main poojas performing here. all the shiva poojas are also conducting same as all shiva temples according to the tantric rules. thriruvathira oottu is the special ritual that will following to the thiruvathira nakshthara of all malayalam months. the temple is administrated and maintain by an advisory committee selected from the devotees. the committe will change after every three years.

The annual thiru utsvam is the main event host here, the annual ceremony usually host on Malayalam month kumbham. in old days temple has a great tradition of land holdings and 24 tons of paddies every year. it is very easy to locate at the temple when you reach at perumbavoor, there are thousands of devotees feel the pleasure of visiting the shivalayam.
