Brihadeeswarar temple is an ancient hindu temple in india dedicated to lord shiva,located at tanjavur in tamil nadu state,the temple is built during chola dynasty by the king raja raja chola 1 in 1010 CE.the temple give the total picturing of dravidan architecture.UNESCO add this temple to the list of world heritage.the principal deity worshiped as linga which is one of the biggest idol in the world.the temple is full of with granite.there are two way to entering the temple.the height of the temple shikhara is about 60.96 meter.the temple is 1000 years old and kunjara mallan raja raja perunthachan was the architect of the temple.

The sub deities of the temple are dakshinamurthy,surya and chandra which are placed in outer wall and they are big in size.there is not idol for ashtadik palakas(guardians of eight directions). the statue of nandikesha is present at the entrance of the temple it is made up of a single stone and this image is the second biggest nandi in india.chola paintings can be seen in the wall of the temple.this 60 meter height temple is not only a holy place but also the culture of ancient indian culture.

The temple timings are following morning rituals start from 6.00 am to 12.30 noon and evening timings from 4.00 pm to 8.30 pm.there are lot of festival hosts here chithirai madham, pramorsavam,the birthday celebration of raja raja chola conducted here.pradosha day is an important day for he devotees.special event occurs during the time of new year,pongal and diwali.mahasivarathri is a main festival hosts here.there is not tough to reach the temple because the bus stand is very close with distance 5 km that will connect all other main cities in tamil nadu.nearest railway station is tanjavur.the airport near to the temple is thiruchirappalli with a distance 58 km.the temple address as follows Address: Membalam Rd, Balaganapathy Nagar, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu 613007
