Lord parasurama is an incarnation of lord vishnu who created main 108 holy shiva places which termed as shivalayams, annamanada temple is one among the 108 shivalayams established by parasurama located at the banks of chalakkudy river in thrissur district. Lord shiva in this temple worshiped as kiratamurthy. annamanada is the name derived from the place here is in old days used to serve free meals by brahmin families and hence the place got this name. The prime deity lord shiva as kiratamoorthy is the form of lord shiva while giving pasupthasthathra to arjuna.

The unique feature of this kshethra is the sinking balikkallu, which was early used for the vision from outside the nalamabalam. Many beautiful sculptures are also exist in the temple architecture. Except the main deity paravathy, narasimha, durga, bhadrakali, serpant gods. The main peculiarity of this kshethra is the positioning of lord shiva and parvathy in the sanctum, both of them are installed in the same platform of the sanctum sanatorium and established in face to face direction.

The annual festival of annamanada temple is celebrated in a grand way in malayalam moth kubham. which usually falls in february or march months in gregorian calendar. the annual festival lasts for ten days. Lakshadeepam is the core event that falls in the sixth day of annual festival. lakshadeepam means the one lakh chirags, The festival ends with thiruvathira arattu, the ceremony done in the annamanada river.
