Annamalaiyar Temple is one of the main shiva temples in south india worshiping lord shiva as annamalaiyar and his consort parvathy as apitakuchambaal in the temple, is showing the remaining evidences of dravidan architecture in old days by the rulers early in south india, is the good model of dravidan architecture. agni theerthakulam is the temple tank is a special thing relate with the Annamalaiyar Temple. the Temple is located at the foot of annamalai hills in thiruvannamali district of Tamilandu state.

Annamalaiar Temple is considered as one of the largest temple in India sprawling an area about 10 hectares. there are four raajagoprams situated in the temple without painting it. the eastern gopuram is considered as third lagest towers in India. gopurams are built by king vallalar. It is believed that the temple was built around 700 AD, is one of the elemental features of the temple is about the panchasthalams, which means there are five terms representing the five elements includes fire, earth, water, sky and wind, the Annammalaiyar Temple represents the fire as agnilingam, it is believed that the the lord shiva is manifested from the massive column of fire.

lord shiva is worshiped as arunachaleswar. The first and second enclosures are very old one which built years ago, the second enclosure with the idols of 63 nayanmars, the third one was built by king kulothunga with 16 pillars mandapam. the statue of nandi is holds at forth enclosure. there is a temple tank named agni theerthakulam at fifth enclosure. There will be regular bus services from chennai to thiruvnnamalaii by 122p and 122pp buses. thiruvannamalai is the nearest railway station to the Annamalaiyar Temple. the temple is open since 5.30 am to 9.30 pm after the daily rituals.
