History

It is believed that the temple made in AD 15,by the order of local ruler chembakassery Pooradam Thirunal-Devanarayanan Thampuran,chambakkulam moolam boat race held in the river pamba on the moolam day of the malayalam month midhunam the day is the installation of Ambalappuzha Sree Krishna Temple .the famous art form ottanthullal was originated from here,kunchan nambyar created this art form, it is believed that this is the first form of mimicry in kerala.

he is also the inventor of mizhav which is used in temple for some occasions it is believed that thunjathu ezhuthachan written great adhyathma ramayana by staying here,The main festival of the temple is the 10-day Arattu Utsavam in Meenam (March/April). Processions by several caparisoned tuskers accompanied by vadya-melams (percussion instrument musics) and performances of Vela kali, a martial art form, are the main attractions.
